Proofreads

Your manuscript is just about ready for publication. You are sure in your plot, characters, voice, and word choice, but you want one more set of eyes to give everything a once-over. In this proofread, we will check for any last minute typos or punctuation errors. We will also check to make sure fonts and spacing are consistent throughout, as well as headers, and page numbers if included.

  • Checking for last minute typos, spelling and punctuation errors, extra and missing spaces, and consistency of fonts, headers, and page numbers, if included in submitted materials
  • Edits, suggested changes, and comments will be marked within the pages of the document
  • An overview report with overall thoughts and feedback

Copy Edit

It’s time to get into the nitty gritty of your work. We’ll examine word choice and sentence structure. We are also going to take a magnifying glass to the text and look for any and every grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and syntax issue. Did you mean to use “there”, but you wrote “they’re” instead? Maybe you didn’t know that “apart” and “a part” have different meanings and had them mixed up. Did you accidentally put an extra period at the end of a sentence or forget an apostrophe? Well, if you did, we will find it during a copy edit. Before this, we were concerned with how things sounded. Now, we’re concerned about how they look.

What’s included:

  • Checking for misused words, repeated words and phrases, any spelling issues and typos, grammar and syntax issues, correct punctuation, formatting of words, consistency of style and tone, word choice, keeping consistent with character information, proper formatting of dialogue, unnecessary words, and correct information and ethics

  • Checked for expected conventions of AP or CMOS styles, depending on the project

Line Edit

You’re satisfied with your plot and the contents of your story, personal essay, or news article. Now it’s time to start looking at the details. Line editing focuses on the consistency of your voice and tone throughout the story. We’re also going to look for consistency of tense and point-of-view. Did you start in present tense and accidentally slip into past tense somewhere? What about your characters? Are their names spelled the same throughout? Are there any run-on sentences sneaking around? We will be sure to find out. We’re also going to examine the flow of your words. We want your story to sound perfect.

What’s included:

  • Checking for flow of words and sentences, the readability of words, sentences, and the work as a whole; and word choice, clarity of sentences of words, consistency of style and tone, sentence structure and length, repeated words and phrases, consistency of character information and world building, smoothness and effective use of words in dialogue

Developmental Edit

Let’s get to the meat of your story. We’re going to take an in-depth look at your plot. Do you have a clear beginning, middle, and end? Are your chapters moving the story along? Are your characters clear in their actions, motivations, and personalities? We will look at the story overall and see where things are working and maybe not so much. By the end, your story will be sturdy and ready for the next step.

What’s included:

  • Checking for overall plot strength, plot holes, pacing and flow, character development and arcs, character information, conflict, story structure, author voice and tone, overall story tone, character inconsistencies, world building, setting, effectiveness of dialogue, and any other structure flaws
  • Updates throughout the process
  • Comments, suggestions, and edits will be marked within the pages of the document
  • A basic style sheet
  • An overview report including overall thoughts and feedback

Manuscript , Article, or Chapter Evaluation

Want to know what’s working and what’s not in your rough draft? Then this is for you! Let us take a look and give you some kind and constructive feedback.

What’s included:

  • An assessment of the work’s overall plot, pacing, characters and character development, tone, setting, point of view, strengths and weaknesses, and feedback on plot points, writing style, and characters
  • Updates throughout the process
  • A detailed report will be emailed to you. The report will highlight the pros and cons, and give some overall thoughts, as well as constructive feedback.

$200 per 25,000 words**
